After five weeks of adventures on the wonderful South Island it was time to cross back to Wellington so Kristy could fly home and we could explore the North Island more thoroughly.

While waiting to board the ferry Diana and Kristy practice synchronized sandwich eating |

Jealous of the cool boat in Kris and Juli's backyard, Kevin goes on a shopping trip |
One of the main exports of NZ waits to be loaded on a ship |
Yikes! The ferry looked a lot bigger when we crossed the first time! |
Once comfortably on board, Kristy points out our escort ... |
... I think we saw this gannet on the way over. |
We raced this old oil tanker into port... |
... it wasn't much of a contest, those ferries scoot along pretty quickly. |
Back in port, cargo, and people, are unloaded wharfside ... |
... and sailboats take advantage of the strong breeze. |

As I mentioned before, we took Kristy out for a goodbye dinner. This place was near Alana's house and billed itself as a sort of tapas bar. But even if you split the bun vertically and put a nice squiggle of mustard on top, a hotdog is still a hotdog, and at $8, a bit expensive. Oh well, it's all about ambience. |
