Friday, March 8 - Wanganui

We went back to the city of Wanganui, which we had visited for a short while on our trip south through North Island.  It's a the mouth of the river of the same name, which was used by paddle boats to carry cargo and people into the wild inland regions.

This old boat sat on the bottom of the river for 50 years until it was rescued
and rebuilt over a 10 year period.  Now it takes tourists up the river.
Another old boat awaits rebuilding
This cool stainless steel sphere has shows the course of the Whaganui
River.  I think the scale is slightly exaggerated.
However, there's no exaggerating how fine these two look!
I guess old John didn't actually have very good balance
Another fine old car on the streets of NZ
Just thought I'd show off the progress on my mask
for the next New Year's Eve party.  Not sure what
theme it actually fits.
Mount Taranaki, which would dominate our views for the next few days
