We got
a good early start and drove to Ayer's Rock Resort in Yalaru ( a
five hour drive) to book a site at the campground. After setting up
our tent we headed out to see the group of rock formations now know
as Kata Tjata, formerly known as The Olgas. Vastly less famous than
Uluru, or Ayers rock, it lies some 45 km west, and is a complex of 36
sandstone domes actually larger than “the rock” and considered by
some to be more interesting. We decided to see it first since we only
had a few hours before sunset and wanted to have the whole next day
to see Uluru.

We took
both trails, which took us a couple hours, then ended up watching the
rocks turn from red to purple to brown to black as the sun set. Our
verdict on KT, great rocks, beautiful colors, nice hike, have to wait
to see how it compares with it's more famous cousin.

By the
time we got back to our campground it was too late to cook dinner, so
we had Tim Tams and wine, then went to bed.
Looks like southern Utah!
ReplyDeleteMy thought too. I miss the desert! I love me some red rocks.-KDB
