In the morning we said goodbye to Kim and Jake. Kim got a good
'cuddle' or hug, from each of us, and I showed Jake the 'man hug', a
quick embrace with three thumps on the back, no more. (The Bennetts
and the Burts have it down pat). After a week of being with this
wonderful family it was going to be hard to leave (and not just
because it always takes Diana and me a long time to leave anywhere.
Our drop dead goal was to be gone before they got home from work, we
barely made it.)
Before
we could depart Armidale we unsuccessfully tried to get third party
property damage insurance in town. Vehicle registration includes
third party personal insurance, but if we flatten a valuable ram stud
on the road and get sued, we'll have to pay out of pocket unless we
pick up TPP. Turns out you need an international drivers license to
get said insurance, at least from the biggest company in Oz. I don't
have one, so it will take more searching to find a company to cover
us. Until then, I guess I have to... drive … real... slow...
We had a few other shopping errands to complete in town before we
were finished, but finally got back to Kim's at about 3 pm to drop
off a couple small gifts before we left. We met Gary's mom Di while
there, and all agreed that Kim was a wonderful mom and Jake a darling
boy.
Heading south we made it to the Moonbi overlook for the night, where I
cooked aloo gobi for dinner and we got to camp for free.
Another great free camping spot! |
