Wednesday, January 30 Wellington

Diana and I woke up and drove the car down to the mechanic. He told us to give him an hour or so to do the repair.  We walked into town so Diana could go thrift shopping for new pants, then went back and fetched the van.  It was a pleasing sight to see it sitting in the parking lot, level and true.
We had one last day in Wellington, so we drove into town for a little more sightseeing, and to use the invaluable free Wifi by the harbor.

This very early Anglican church was built of wood,
a good idea in an earthquake prone country
Beautiful joinery in the framing
Next to the museum there is a spot where kids can jump into the harbor waters
A never ending line of jumpers and a few cannonballers trying to soak
the spectators

Further out in the harbor people sailed, kayaked, and rowed
Launching a Maori canoe
Back on dry land, non-contact martial arts set to music
We went back to camp for an early dinner.  We planned to leave at 6:30 am the next day to catch the ferry to South Island, so we wanted to get our showers and crawl into bed before it got too late.
